Screw compressors are the most popular choice of air compressor amongst industrial applications. When you require a constant demand for air, a fixed speed compressor would be the most efficient. When a fixed speed compressor is on, it runs at full demand regardless of the air need. Fixed speed compressors are often less expensive at the initial purchase, but will use more electricity over time. Fixed speed compressors make the most sense in applications where the demand for compressed air does not fluctuate much and aso when the up front cost is a significant consideration.
If you are needing to adjust your compressor to fit the proper air demand often, a variable speed screw compressor would be ideal. Variable speed compressors automatically adjust the speed of the motor so that the production of the compressed air will match the demand in real time.
